WEEK 5

Choices + Consequences
July 13 - 19

Hello, Happy Camper Families!

Here we are in the middle of summer and it is time to think about back to school shopping! (I know, too soon). Our lesson this week was an awesome lesson in choices and consequences. We are now studying the life of Abraham’s grandson Jacob.
This first week we spent time studying how our actions can affect others, and how the choices we make can create outcomes that are not very good.
Here are the verses we focused on:

Jacob took his brothers inheritance:
Genesis 25:31-33
“Jacob responded, “First, sell me your rights as firstborn.” “I’m about to die.” Esau said. “What good is my inheritance to me?” “First, swear an oath,” Jacob said. So Esau swore an oath to him and sold him his rights as firstborn.”

Jacob deceived his father and takes his brothers blessing:
Genesis 27:36
“Esau said, 'Isn’t that why he’s named Jacob? He’s cheated me twice already: He took my rights as firstborn, and now he’s taken my blessing.” So he asked, “Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?'"

Esau hated Jacob:
Genesis 27:41
“So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing that his father had given him. Esau said to himself, 'The time to mourn for my father is near. Then I’ll kill my brother Jacob.'”

Jacob’s mother sent him away and she never saw him again:
Genesis 27:42
“When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him, “Watch out! Your brother Esau is comforting himself by planning to kill you.”

Jacob’s actions were not kind. His words were not honest. It caused strife in his family.

REPORT FROM CAMP SOZO:

Mr. Scott Black reported to me that after our God connection time, he asked the campers if Holy Spirit was talking to them about anyone they had hurt or needed to  forgive. He said the campers started to come to him as tell him they need to tell people they were sorry! So they started to write letters to those people on the back of their treasure maps!
I encourage you to follow up with your campers about these revelations and leadings from Holy Spirit! These are the moments when God’s character is formed in their hearts! Jesus is doing wonderful things in the lives of our campers!
